Chapter 2 Is In Progress!
Hello everyone! I just wanted to make an update post for the progress with developing chapter 2 for The Voyager Chronicles. Currently, my personal life is really busy so work on chapter 2 is slow, but soon it will start to pick up. I have 80% of the dialogue and placeholders done as well as finishing working on some cool mechanics that I will be adding.
What To Look Forward To!
The end of chapter 1 was left on a cliff hanger and many wonder where the story will go. I won't spoil too much, but brace yourselves for more characters to meet and converse with, more action packed sequences, as well as experiencing some cool new mechanics.
The new mechanics I'm adding in are: 1) A new Home Screen during certain sections. 2) A Personality System that changes with each choice interaction.
The new Home Screen will be available in between main story sections. In the Home Screen, there will be 3 sections that you can select. You can select your personal stats, character sheets for the characters you have met so far, and a story recap section that updates as the game goes on. More details are to come, but I'm pretty happy with how this is all looking!
What I'm really excited about in this update is the Personality System I'm introducing. I love the Mass Effect and KOTOR series, but I have always felt that the binary options of 'choose good or choose evil' have always pigeon holed players into choosing one path if they want to have the best result. I have had a blast playing those games, but with my game, I want it to be very character driven, so having a binary good/evil morality system wouldn't cut it. So I've developed a Personality System for the player. Depending on the choices you make, it will shape MC's personality and the world around him will react accordingly.
How does this Personality System work?
Every time you make a choice, you gain XP relating to the type of choice you've made. Are you Charming or Intimidating? Diplomatic or confrontational? Analytical or emotional? It's up to you with the choices you make.
How does your personality interact with the world? Each character has their own preferences and will like you more or like you less depending on what your XP stats are. There's a lot of calculation here under the hood, but essentially, the more your personality meshes with another character, the more that character will like you, providing you say the right thing! Different personalities also create new dialogue branches.
